Common questions

The camera can't see my face / tracking keeps dropping.

Gurn needs a clear view of your face from the front (TrueDepth) camera. Play somewhere reasonably lit, hold the phone roughly arm's length, and keep your whole face in frame. Glasses and hats are usually fine. If it still struggles, close and reopen the app so it re-runs calibration — the "and relax… 3… 2… 1… go!" breather resets your neutral face.

Does Gurn store or send my face data?

No. The face tracking happens entirely on your device, and no face or depth data is ever stored or transmitted. The clip Gurn records is an ordinary video that stays on your phone until you choose to share it.

Is Gurn free? What can I buy?

Gurn is free to download and play, with no subscription. The optional in-app purchases are all about looks — a Starter Pack (a cosmetic plus a coin head start), plus cosmetics you unlock with coins earned by playing. Nothing you can buy affects your score or rank — no pay-to-win, and no purchase ever touches the leaderboards.

Do I have to pay to record or share a clip?

No. Recording your run, exporting it in HD, and sharing it are always free — sharing is never locked behind a purchase. Every clip carries a small Gurn wordmark in the corner; that's just how people find the game.

I got a new phone — how do I get my purchases back?

Open Gurn → Settings → Restore Purchases. Apple checks your past purchases against your Apple ID and restores them on the new device. You won't be charged again.

I can't make one of the expressions.

Gurn uses forgiving thresholds, and every move is available from your very first run. If you'd like to warm up first, tap Tutorial on the main menu — it walks you through each face one at a time before you run for real. If a particular face is genuinely hard for you to make, you have options: turn on touch controls (see below), and email me — getting this right for everyone matters to me, and your specifics help.

Can I play without making faces?

Yes. Turn on Settings → Touch controls for a full tap-based control scheme — the same game, no face required. It's there for accessibility and for when your face just needs a break, and it runs on its own leaderboards, so you're ranked against other touch players rather than face players.
